Introducing the Elle TENS for Pain Modulation

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a noninvasive pain management option that can be used during labor (and post-natally) that delivers mild electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the lower back. These impulses help reduce the perception of pain by stimulating nerves and encouraging the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relievers.

TENS can be especially helpful in early labor and during contractions, giving birthing individuals a sense of control over pain relief.

It is considered safe for labor, does not interfere with mobility, and can be used alongside other comfort measures or medical pain management options.

Additional Details

​

  • Each rental includes a new, unused set of 4 electrode pads.

​

  • All equipment is disinfected between use with medical grade disinfectant.

​

  • All rentals require a $80 refundable security deposit, as will be listed in the contract.

​

  • The kit will come with instructions, but you are always welcome to call/text Dr. Mariah for additional information or questions!

Precautions:

* Do not use with  a cardiac pacemaker or with a seizure disorder. 

​

* TENS unit cannot be used in water! You would need to remove the pads before getting in the bath/shower and then re-apply after.

​

* It is very important to mention that for maximum benefit, TENS needs to be started in early labor before contractions become overwhelmingly strong (this is due to the Gate Control Theory of Pain).
